General educational information only. Equipment, installation conditions, applicable codes, and service availability vary. This page is not a diagnosis or a substitute for qualified electrical work.
When a focused repair may work
A compatible component or circuit issue may be repairable if the panel is otherwise suitable and the root cause is known.
When replacement may be considered
Significant heat damage, corrosion, damaged internal components, obsolete equipment, recurring issues, or capacity constraints may support considering replacement.
Compare the full scope
Ask for the diagnosis, proposed work, parts compatibility, permits, inspection requirements, and limitations. A low-cost part change is not appropriate if it leaves the actual fault unaddressed.
Do not self-diagnose inside the panel
Panel interiors can contain hazardous energized parts. Use a qualified professional rather than attempting internal inspection.
Do not remove an electrical panel cover, touch exposed wiring, bypass breakers, or work on energized equipment. Keep away from smoke, sparking, burning odors, or obvious overheating and seek appropriate urgent assistance.
